Death of Willy De Lathauwer

We learn of the death of Willy De Lathauwer, former secretary general of ABTUS-BVOTS, on 05/04/2022 in Bruges. He was particularly active at the international level and known in many associations.

Willy De Lathauwer, in the ABTUS-BVOTS

Willy de Lathauwer was born in Ghent on 13/11/1946. After graduating as a civil construction engineer, he joined the administration, first at the Ponts et Chaussées, and then at the Directorate General Land Transport, where he remained until his retirement in December 2004, having reached the position of Chief Engineer – Director.

He was also one of the founding members of ABTUS-BVOTS in 1977, with the following functions:

He was the ABTUS representative on the editorial board of our journal TES until 2000, when he was replaced by Didier De Bruyn.

Willy De Lathauwer internationally

Willy has been very active in many international associations, among which we can mention

Willy was known for his enthusiasm, his joie de vivre and his humor. He had that empathy that attracts and allies.

On behalf of the AFTES, we offer our sincere condolences to his wife and family.

We will dedicate a tribute to him in the form of testimonials in the next TES magazine.
