50 metres underground, the world’s most beautiful station is in Paris
16 December 2025 Off By Anne BRISSAUD“Paris: Villejuif–Gustave Roussy station named ‘the world’s most beautiful station’.”
The new Villejuif–Gustave Roussy metro station in Paris has just been awarded the 2025 Prix Versailles, earning the title of the world’s most beautiful station. Designed by architect Dominique Perrault, this Grand Paris Express station stands out for its futuristic design and luminous structure, which contrasts strikingly with its impressive depth of 50 metres underground.
Inaugurated last January, the station spans nine levels and is designed to accommodate up to 100,000 passengers per day. The interplay of light, filtered through a sculpted glass dome and textured stainless-steel walls, creates an airy, almost poetic atmosphere despite the depth of the platforms.
This international distinction, supported by UNESCO, highlights French architectural excellence and the ambition of the Grand Paris Express project in transforming transport infrastructure.
